know that you can hike to the top of it?
Inside the crater is Diamond Head State Park, which has a picnic area and
bathrooms, as well as a fantastic hike up to the top of Diamond Head Peak
with an amazing view of Honolulu. The peak of Diamond Head houses a
former military lookout post with tunnels and caves that you can explore. The
hike takes about 1.5 hours round trip and is a genuine climb but the route is
made up of paved trail and solid concrete steps with handrails in all narrow or
steep sections. This is a very family-friendly climb and is a great way to spend
a morning or an afternoon. Entrance to the park is $1 for pedestrians and
The Park is open from 6am to 6pm daily but the last entrance for the hike to
the peak is at 4:30pm.
