How to get there |
Cromwell's - secret Beach |
Please note that all distances are measured from the center of Waikiki, so final distance from your hotel may vary by plus or minus 0.7 of a mile |
This secret swimming hole is a local hangout for area teenagers and young adults where you can jump off the rocks into a stone-lined pool connected directly to the ocean. It also offers the rare view of Diamond Head from the East. This unique setting is actually the old boat harbor for the former residence of famous socialite and philanthropist Doris Duke, whose magnificent Hawaiian home sits above the swimming hole. Nicknamed Shangri-La, the house is now an Islamic Art Museum that can be visited on tours from the Honolulu Museum of Art. The swimming hole is reached via the beach access point in front of 218 Kalamanu Place. Once you are on the shoreline, walk to the left over the rocks until you come to the stone wall and mini-harbor that form the swimming hole. Please note that the rocks can be slippery and there is no lifeguard on duty here. Also please respect that this is a local hangout for teenagers and young people so please don't show up with your baby sister and Grandma. |
